Colonial buildings found in Rio should be exposed to the public

The O Globo newspaper this week published a story that highlights the archaeological discoveries made by the excavations of the Middle Cultural Environment Program - Vehicle Project Light Rail Transit (LRT), in Rio de Janeiro.

The fragments found by scientists indicate the possibility of colonial buildings floors. According to Erika Marion Robrahn-González, managing partner of DOCUMENTO Ecology & Culture and the general coordinator of the Archaeological Program VLT Rio, have been found 20 pieces that can be buildings of the nineteenth century, as tenements, shops or homes.

As mentioned by the report, the passages that are best preserved will be taken by the concessionaire responsible for the project, which is doing the work with the support of DOCUMENTO, under the supervision of the Heritage Institute for National Artistic (Iphan). The intention is that the parts are assembled and eventually exposed to the public.

The program has the participation of the Concessionaire VLT Carioca S / A, with the support IPHAN, UERJ (State University from Rio de Janeiro) and DOCUMENTO development.
